Konda's History

Konda Running

Rather than dread the coming of her 40th birthday, Konda Walker has chosen to celebrate her big day in a big way! A life-long animal lover, Konda wants her birthday to be a blessing to those animals that are still waiting for their "forever" homes. Therefore, she is inviting her friends, family and community to help her make this dream a reality.

In her youth, Konda didn't have the opportunity to have a pet of her own. Not only was her brother Chase severely allergic to all things furry, but her family was also frequently on the move from one dusty station to another as a part of her father's military career.

"Bessie," a kitten, became Konda's first pet when she moved away to college. Later, after her marriage to husband, Dean, their "family," expanded to include two dogs: Griffin and O.D., as well as an abundance of other four-legged friends. These pets were soon joined by their two-legged brother and sisters, Dean and Konda's children: Ross, Reagan, and Reid.

Kids with Dogs

The Walker family has experienced both the joys and sorrows of pet ownership. Their hearts were particularly broken when they learned they would have to leave behind their beloved dog Sandy when they were transferred to China for two years. However, the trip home was happier because they brought back a miniature Schnauzer named Ricky.

Now, back in the United States, they have thrown much of their time and energy into fostering pets for the Washington County SPCA. That's where Konda's birthday dream began.

Konda's Cause

On May 16th, the "Walk for Animals" will be held at the Colaw Fitness gym at Eastland Center. The walk will entail a 12-hour, 5am to 5pm, non-stop treadmill hike intended to highlight the need for new facilities for the WCSPCA. Animal lover's of all persuasions are invited to participate in the walk by pledging to donate by either the mile or by hour. Pledges may be made directly to the WCSPCA by check or by PayPal.

In addition, potential pets will be available for adoption at Colaw Fitness on the day of the walk. If you have a heart to be someone's "forever" home, you may discover that a special someone is waiting there just for you.

We encourage you to be a part of one dog "Walker's" dream, while celebrating the birthday of a woman who calls herself "blessed" and desires to be a blessing to others.

spca after flood

Konda is trying to help the local WCSPCA because it is consistently being flooded by the nearby Caney River. During these periods, all of the animals must be moved to a separate location. Many individuals are needed to make this complex transfer successful. In addition to moving the animals, the facility undergoes damage that must be addressed before the animals can return. It is no surprise that a new location for the WCSPCA is overdue. The land has been acquired; however, funds are needed to begin construction. Please support the animals as well as the hard working individuals who care for them on a daily basis. Support the WCSPCA; support Konda.
